Wood Treatment Process
At Elmwood Fencing, our products are made from Ethically sourced pine.
All our timber is pressure treated before arrival to site, to prolong the lifespan of the material and to ensure the best quality. Tanalised wood, also known as pressure-treated timber, is wood which has been treated with chemicals to enhance its durability and resistance to decay.
The process involves placing the timber in a large vacuum where air is removed from the wood cells, then filling the chamber with a chemical solution, commonly copper-based, under high pressure, making it ideal for long term structure and environments exposed to moisture.
The pressure drives the chemicals deep into the wood, providing it with long-lasting protection against rot, pests, and dampness. The chemicals used in pressure treatment, play a crucial role in halting the growth of fungi that can cause rot and helps to protect the wood from decay and insects extending the life of the product.
All timber, whether treated or not, will naturally decay over time, especially when in contact with soil. The timespan will vary from location to location due to factors such as maintenance, climate and exposure to the elements. For these reasons, we cannot guarantee the lifespan of the material.
Our treated timber contains a biocidal product to control the organisms which can destroy the wood. The active ingredients in this product are: Basic Copper, Propiconazole and DDA carbonate econazole.
It is advisable to wear gloves when handling the product and to avoid inhalation. Do not use in contact with drinking water or food. Do not use treated timber for dog bedding or in fishponds.
